Introducing extra governance support for smaller housing associations

We’re launching a brand new service, delivered in partnership with Campbell Tickell. Extra governance support for smaller housing associations is an important part of our enhanced offer for smaller housing associations, ensuring you get great value from your NHF membership. 

As you will know, good governance is key to ensuring housing associations are equipped to deliver on their important social purpose. As custodians of the housing sector’s code of governance, housing associations often come to the NHF for advice and support on effective governance.

Smaller housing associations in particular have told us there is real value in practical support and expert advice. In the past, however, we know we haven’t always made it clear what sort of governance support we can provide, but we want to make this clear now and ensure it’s accessible to all smaller housing associations, ensuring we have the resources to deliver on that promise.

There are four strands to our new service, which means you can access support in a way that suits you:

• A bank of frequently asked questions answering all the most common queries about governance.
• A new series of webinars on governance topics, providing tips and advice specifically for smaller housing associations. The first will focus on succession planning and board recruitment.
• A dedicated email helpline for you to send us any questions not answered in the FAQs and which we’ll answer, drawing on expertise from across the National Housing Federation and Campbell Tickell.
• A new monthly ‘governance surgery’ for those queries that are tricky to do over email, where you can book an appointment to meet virtually with one of Campbell Tickell’s governance experts.

Since this is a new service, we’re keen to hear what you think of it and get as much feedback as possible on your experience of how it works and your ideas about how it might be improved.
