Join the new Kickstart Housing Network

14 August 2020

Earlier this year the government introduced the new Kickstart Scheme, a £2 billion fund to create hundreds of thousands of high quality six-month work placements aimed at those aged 16-24 who are on Universal Credit and are deemed to be at risk of long-term unemployment. Like the hugely successful Future Jobs Fund programme 10 years ago, which involved 90 housing associations, this funding covers 100% of the relevant National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week, plus the associated employer National Insurance contributions and employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions.

Once again, housing associations can play a significant role in this scheme. That’s why, working alongside sector networks including Communities that Work and ERSA, Clarion is aiming to create a Kickstart Housing Network to identify and galvanise the interest of housing providers in Kickstart. This will mean that, when details of the procurement process are announced, housing associations will be in a position to respond quickly and positively. We expect the government to announce details of the application process mid to late August.
