Applications for funding from wave 2 of the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund will open in late August or early September 2022 but you can begin preparing now. Housing associations intending to bid should explore the support available through the Social Housing Retrofit Accelerator (SHRA).
The SHRA is a fully-funded support service to help social housing providers across England successfully bid into the government’s Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund.
The team offers a range of proven support developed with and for the social housing sector by housing retrofit and grant application experts.
Funded by BEIS, the service is delivered by Turner & Townsend.
The SHRA is accessible to all social housing providers in England, including local authorities, housing associations and combined authorities.
Providers can access free technical and bid support through the online Knowledge Hub and a comprehensive series of masterclass webinars hosted by subject specialists. In addition to this, organisations preparing to lead a bid, or who are part of a consortium bidding into the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund can get tailored one-to-one guidance.
The SHRA team can also help your organisation to join a consortium bid.
The approach builds upon the success of support provided for housing providers to bid into wave one of the fund. The SHRA supported 96.9% of the total successful funding allocations for wave one, ranging from online masterclasses to intensive one-to-one bid support.
A simple self-assessment is a quick way to identify how prepared you are to bid for the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund and highlight where more preparation may be needed.

In May 2022, BEIS and the Turner & Townsend team working on the Social Housing Retrofit Accelerator (SHRA) partnered with Unlock Net Zero and Inside Housing to lead a funding guidance workshop for Wave 2 of the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund.
Slides from this workshop are available with information on likely policy for Wave 2, as well as how to access support from the SHRA, the BEIS-funded programme available to all housing associations.
The policy design for Wave 2 is in the final stages of development. It is not finalised yet so is still subject to change. Following feedback from landlords that there are significant benefits of sharing policy details as early as possible to help to prepare quality bids, BEIS is sharing 'likely policy' now.
Once approved, BEIS will publish the guidance, application form and FAQs, which will be more detailed than those available in the slides.
