Tell us what you think about new proposals for Ofsted inspections for children’s supported accommodation

12 July 2023

The Department for Education (DfE) has introduced new standards for quality, registration and inspection for providers of supported accommodation for looked after children and care leavers aged between 16 and 17.

At the NHF, we welcome these standards aiming to make sure support and accommodation for children is consistently good, and any actions to improve can be taken quickly and effectively. We submitted a response on behalf of our members to the initial consultation on the proposed standards to the government. You can read our response here.

Now, Ofsted are consulting on their proposals for the way in which they will conduct inspections. This consultation will run from 10 July to 8 September 2023 and will inform Ofsted’s arrangements for inspections starting in April 2024.

We want you to tell us what you think about Ofsted’s proposals, to inform our response to the consultation. As your membership body, we want to make sure we reflect the voice of the sector on the proposed inspection process. We have put together an overview of the proposed inspection process, and outlined the questions we would like our members to respond to.

Please let us know what you think using the contact information below.

You can find more guidance on the new standards through the National Children’s Bureau. The NCB is working closely with commissioners to raise awareness of the reforms, develop practical tools to support providers to implement and support them to prepare for registration and inspection. The NCB has set up a website for providers.
