The energy crisis and communal heating systems – feedback required

The NHF is continuning to discuss with the government and consumer organisations how best to help tenants with fuel costs given anticipated price rises. With prices set to rise, there are a number of issues that supported housing providers face as a result of their communal heating systems and contracts. We know that members are concerned about these rises, and are worried about the knock on impact for their residents.

There is a particular issue with communal heating systems common in supported and sheltered housing where customers will not benefit from a price cap nor the £400 grant available to customers with their own supply. We are awaiting clarification from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy on this point. In the mean time, we are continuing ti gather evidence from housing associations about their experiences. To help us make the case for government action we need more evidence on the extent of the problem: the numbers of people affected and the amount by which bills will have to increase.
