Influencing Academy

What is Influencing Academy?

Influencing Academy is a three-day residential programme that aims to develop leaders in influencing from every part of the housing association sector.

Now in its 4th year, the NHF’s Influencing Academy has welcomes over 30 housing professionals from across the country. Past speakers on this interactive course have included Alastair Campbell, Isabel Hardman and Paul Mason.

Through Influencing Academy, you will:

  • Learn new skills from experts in politics and housing advocacy.
  • Create a network of people across the housing association sector who can work together to tell our story.
  • Hear from influencing experts.
  • Put your new influencing skills into practice.
  • Learn world-class storytelling and influencing techniques.
  • Discover how to draw upon strengths of people power and grassroots campaigning.
  • Gain valuable insider information on how to get the attention of busy politicians.

Our sessions are all practical and tailored specifically for housing association staff. On this residential training programme, you can take time out of your day-to-day job to immerse yourself in the world of influencing.

Who can attend?

Influencing Academy is open to staff of all members of the National Housing Federation who influence as part of their daily jobs. This course is most useful for public affairs teams, communications teams and those who regularly meet with stakeholders. It is also beneficial for chief executives and members of leadership teams who are responsible for the relationships with MPs and local authorities, although we encourage staff of all levels and roles to apply.

We always want to make sure there’s a good mix of participants from different types of housing associations and from every region of the country.

Alumni programme

As part of Influencing Academy, you will join an alumni network of previous influencing graduates. Influencing Academy alumni receive political updates from the NHF and access to our political intelligence bulletin – keeping you up to date with all the latest news from parliament.

The applications for Influencing Academy 2021 will open in November; in the meantime if you have any questions please contact Jess Mullins.
