What are housing associations doing to help prevent homelessness?

05 July 2022

Housing associations have always played a role in preventing homelessness. In fact, many housing associations were founded with this specific purpose. Published in collaboration with CIH and Homes for Cathy, these case studies shine a light on the work housing associations continue to play in tackling homelessness. It explores a variety of innovative and successful housing led approaches to prevent homelessness for tenants. Topics include:

  • What is homelessness prevention?
  • Housing associations’ role in preventing homelessness.
  • Benefits of targeted homelessness prevention.
  • Targeted prevention.
  • Crisis prevention.
  • Recovery prevention.

It provides examples of the many ways in which housing associations can help prevent homelessness for their tenants and other people at risk of homelessness, with reference case studies. We hope it will encourage housing associations to consider their own approach to homelessness prevention and ask what more they can do in this area.
