PPE - VAT exemption

07 July 2020

The government has extended measures exempting the purchase of PPE from VAT until 31 October 2020. This provision was originally due to last until 31 July 2020, but has now been extended for a for a further three months. This is a positive move which will help keep the costs of procuring PPE down for housing and care providers.

The Treasury estimates that the extension will save care providers and other businesses an additional £155m. The move will particularly aid sectors that cannot recover VAT on such goods due to their VAT exempt status, such as care homes, but it will benefit all organisations buying PPE.
