Our offer for smaller housing associations

The National Housing Federation's (NHF) mission is to create an environment in which every single one of our members can thrive and deliver on their social purpose.

Smaller housing associations will always have an incredibly important role to play, supporting communities and building the homes this country needs.

Our package of support for smaller housing associations, who have fewer than 2,000 homes, has been developed alongside our members and includes tailored resources, networking opportunities, and ways we can represent you in our influencing work.

Support for smaller housing associations

Smaller Housing Associations Forum

We have launched a new online Smaller Housing Associations Forum, exclusively for NHF members that manage less than 2,000 homes.

TopicBox is an email platform that provides an easy space for people to ask questions, share experiences and learn from one another. We believe it is an efficient and accessible way to support our members’ conversations, providing more immediate responses and multiple opportunities to network.

If you would like to join the Smaller Housing Association Forum, please sign up here.

Practical resources

Networking and events

As an NHF member you have access to a series of online national networks, which are free to attend:

You can also access discounted prices for our conferences including:

  • An annual National Smaller Housing Associations’ Conference.
  • Tailored content and networking opportunities at our annual flagship conference, The Housing Community Summit.

Raising the voice of our smaller housing association members

To achieve this, we:

  • Ensure the interests and issues affecting smaller housing associations are represented in our political influencing at a national and local level.
  • Showcase your best practice and stories within and beyond the sector.
  • Actively seek your input for consultations via the National Smaller Housing Association Network roundtables and webinars.
  • Ensure that smaller housing associations are represented on our national working groups.
  • Facilitate access to politicians and key stakeholders via roundtables and other appropriate forums.

How to get involved

You can get involved in this work by joining our National Smaller Housing Association Network, which supports the NHF to:

  • Develop and test new policy ideas.
  • Engage smaller housing associations in our work.
  • Inform our responses to the government and other stakeholders.
  • Support collaboration and information sharing between smaller housing association members.

The network meets virtually and is chaired by Helena Evans, a board member at Housing For Women.

Get in touch to find out more about the group and how to join.

We also have a National Smallest Housing Association Network for organisations with less than 200 homes.
