How many homes did housing associations build last year?

23 September 2021

Our Supply Data survey shows that despite the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, housing associations in England continued to deliver tens of thousands of new homes in 2020/21 for those who need them most across the country.

Each quarter we collect data on new development of all tenures directly from housing associations to gain a more complete picture of the level and breadth of development activity engaged in and funded by our members. This includes affordable homes delivered by the private sector through Section 106 agreements, acquired and owned by housing associations.

As expected, the volume of new builds by the sector in 2020/21 was less than in the previous year due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. However, patterns of upward trends have started to emerge, and housing associations still built a quarter of all new homes, which is similar to previous years.
