Stigma and Social Housing in England report – our response

The University of Durham recently published a new report: Stigma and Social Housing in England report explores the challenges and complexities of social housing stigma, as well as the practical consequences it can have on social housing residents, negatively affecting their everyday realities and quality of life.

We welcome the report’s invitation to all stakeholders in the social housing sector to partake in honest dialogue and develop effective policy measures to address the stigma affecting social housing residents.

Housing associations are committed to creating positive relationships with tenants and investing in the people and the communities they work in. Through the adoption of Together with Tenants, housing associations continue to demonstrate their commitment to residents with a focus on establishing greater accountability, resident engagement and resident oversight.

However, we recognise there is more work to do to achieve an inclusive social housing system.  We support the call for all stakeholders to play their role in restoring pride in social housing and ensure existing homes, people and places are thriving.
